RIFT PROJECT

THREE ELITE AMATEURS. ONE KENYAN VILLAGE. THE OLYMPIC DREAM

RIFT is a real-time documentary project following three athletes as they leave their everyday lives behind to live and train in Iten, Kenya - widely known as the home of champions.

At 2,400 meters above sea level, the environment strips everything back. The routines are simple. The expectations are not.

The project explores two parallel shifts. The geographical - relocating to the Rift Valley. And the personal - closing the gap between where they are and where they believe they can be.

At DOXA, we have always believed in supporting the process behind performance — the unseen work, the consistency, and the commitment it takes to improve.

RIFT reflects that mindset.

ELYAS AYYOUB

THE TALENT

Elyas Ayyoub arrived in Iten with a clear objective: to test the limits of his potential.

A former Ole Miss ‘Rookie of the Year’, he is now targeting 13:30 in the 5000 meters and is currently ranked among the top runners in Belgium.

In Iten, talent is only the starting point.

“On the tough days, I remind myself what I’m working towards.”

We caught up with Elyas in Iten to talk about why they came, what they’ve faced, and what keeps them moving forward.

AINHOA BREA

THE WARRIOR

Ainhoa Brea competes in the 5000 meters and steeplechase, with a clear target of breaking 16 minutes for 5K.

Ranked among the top runners in Spain, she came to Iten to push beyond what is familiar.

Here, consistency becomes resilience.

“It’s not always comfortable - but that’s the point.”

In Iten, we spent some time with Ainhoa talking about the transition, the challenges, and the work behind the progress.

NICOLAS ANEMA

THE STRATEGIST

Nicolas Anema approaches running with structure and intent.

Now in Iten, that structure is constantly challenged.

Chasing the Argentine national record in the 1500 meters, he is currently ranked 10th in South Africa for the mile.

Progress here demands more than a plan.

“The hardest part is accepting that things won’t always go to plan.”

We sat down with Nicolas in Iten to talk about the move, the challenges, and what it takes to keep progressing.

Even away from the roads of Iten, the work continues on the treadmill, just as focused as ever.

A special thank you to Nicolas Anema for reaching out and giving us the opportunity to be part of the project, and to Bryan Villafuerte for capturing the journey along the way.
